The End

I really enjoyed Web 2.0!! I would have to say my favorite part was the Music sites, however I truely loved many of the subjects. I think most of us are employees of libraries because of our love of learning and this was just another great benefit of working at an awesome library system which offers many opportunities for learning. I was surprised how much this felt like playing rather than requirements. I can't think of any way it could be improved, everyone did a GREAT job in the layout of Web 2.0. I would definately participate in any opportunity for learning more about this ever changing technological world we live in.

Games

Gaming is a great way to teach kids hand-eye coordination but I think some parents don't put enough limits on the time kids spend playing games alone. It takes away from the social skills kids need to learn. On the other hand, its a good way to make learning fun and to just simply pass the time.

Live maps

Interesting, this picture is from Virtual Globetrotting website which gets pictures from satellite maps. Too bad these aren't live shots, so you could peek in on teens home alone. Heh, heh, party at the Wold house!!

Search Engines

Funny how every search engine brings up totally different results. Mamma.com is cool, the searches seemed relevant. The searchme.com website is the coolest with a visual of the pages on the results page, although I don't know about the quality of the results, I really like it!!

Podcasts

I like these new ways of learning. It's amazing how accessible these new ways of learning are!

Fun with pix!

Make your own free clipart like this @ www.TXT2PIC.com with free web based tools (hundreds of image generators that run through a web broswer, no software to buy or install).

Yes, I have always thought Overdrive was great and with iPod capabilities it will be extremely useful to our patrons and ourselves! I love it! I would love to see more music videos!

Tagging

I still like Goggle's result better when I did a search for "MARC cataloging", however as more people use the site, the results will improve. I can definately see the benefits for people who use a number of computers. Also, it could be a great way for the Cataloging Dept. to link together useful websites.

WIKI WIKI WIKI

Well, Wikis are something completely new to me. I can see how they will come in very handy! Its like making a webpage in an instant! Too cool! I think we could use this to keep track of changes within our dept. Spam is always annoying, but if its an easy fix, I think its worth it.

Streaming fun!

I love You Tube! I found this great library workout there. Great fun to have on line!! You can find just about anything! Fancast gives you shows you missed! I found Friday Night Lights, a show that I loved which isn't being aired anylonger. And Hulu gives you full movies??? Too cool! Although, it only carries certain movies. I wasn't able to find O, Brother Where Art Thou on this site, but I did find it on Fancast. I think Fancast is better, they are all pretty amazing!

Social Networking

Well, I have been working with these sort of sites for a few years. I joined Eons even though this old dog is too young for that site. Heh heh!! I tried to browse for a friend on Eons but there isn't too many people in the area. It isn't as easy to use as myspace and facebook. On Facebook there is a group called "Access to Research Now!" which could be very useful to many people. In searching Sno Isle Libraries on myspace Ryan's name came up on the second page, along with many other people who mention our site on their page. Guess I need to add our library to mine! A few years ago I created a page for local people to meet and we have had some fun with the new friends I made there. Take a look:
http://www.myspace.com/localchildrenofthe60s70s So many people are afraid of these sort of sites because of the bad people they might find on there, but being someone who has been on myspace for a few years now I can safely say that I have never had a bad experience from it, only good!

Music sites

This was my favorite exercise so far. I have already been using Pandora's website and I was happy to learn about a more programable site. At Pandora's you are dished out the music based on the genre of the artist or song you entered and sometimes you're stuck listening to music you don't really want to hear, however, you do learn new music that way. I really like Finetune because you choose the music.

RSS feeds

Hmmm, sounds interesting. Looks like it will just take some getting used to. A little more use and habits will be created. Although, I feel guilty spending so much time on something that feels like play during work hours. :)

I'm ready

bearded collie

I'm ready to learn new things. This world of technology is changing so fast that a program to help people learn about new things like this might need to be done on a regular basis. New becomes old so fast these days that if someone isn't paying attention your suddenly outdated. It's really an amazing time to be living in. I'm excited!! This old dog is ready to learn new tricks!
